In an interview recently, Pastor Blessing Agboli, who is the wife of the General Overseer of Victorious Army Ministries based in Lagos said a lot of pastors who should set the love examples are the major culprits in this respect. She therefore charged men of God to imbibe the spirit of Christ-like love as Jesus himself is love.
“When I’m called a pastor, sometimes I’m almost like I don’t want to be counted among some of these people because if you are preaching and you don’t have love for the people and don’t have love for your fellow pastors then what are you preaching, because Jesus in essence is love. God is love,” she declared.
Mrs. Agboli who said she met her husband at Latter Rain Assembly headed by firebrand pastor Tunde Bakare, said she and her husband did not start their own church, Victorious Army Ministries, by courting the rich in the society; rather, they picked common people on the streets of Lagos with a view to turning their lives around through the ministry and ministration, and that is love.
In her words, “We started with street boys and girls. I went out into some streets like Allen Avenue, Opebi Link Road, down to Fela Shrine, to gather them, mostly at night. I preached, cooked and gave them money.
“When the ministry started, everybody knew my husband was highly anointed; most people who were sick were healed, and he had this hunger… he was very passionate about healing people because his mum died of an ailment as he didn’t have money to take her to the hospital. In this case, he hated to see sickness and afterwards we began a church because he was basically ready to help those who were need.”
The woman of God who is a British citizen was born and raised in Illogbo in Ika LG area of Delta State. She had her primary education in Enugu and secondary education at Agbor Baptist Girls High School. She later studied nursing at Collable in Ghana, and law in the United Kingdom.
"I first attended the church where my husband was pastoring, he has been in the ministry for a year. In the church he was pastoring I thought my husband was being paid but when I asked him, he said he was not working for money but for God. That made me fell in love with him” she concluded
Anyone who knows the female pastor will tell that she has unrepentant love for jewelries. Any time she steps out, her jewelry collection alone is his passion for people to see the light and love of God a thing she explained is a way to show her gratefulness to God.

He was lost in thought of the good times he had that he was surprised when the driver of the chattered bus announced to him that they are in Ilorin, but to Tunde’s surprise the scene that greeted him was beyond his expectation as the city can easily compete with the revered parts of Lagos like Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki and other such places. He never envisage the sight that greeted him, he was so surprised that he gaped with his mouth wide open and could not hide his admiration to the effort the current government and the predecessor.
Just like Tunde, many are surprised by the transformation programme of the Government of Governor Abdul Fatah Ahmed, despite the fact that the State is predominantly a public servant State, the current Governor has been doing well with the little resources made available to the them, this much was confessed by the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum who is also the current executive Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amechi, who is of the opinion that the government of the State must be performing miracle with the level of development compare to the amount they are getting from the Federation purse.
Though the State can be said to be one of the poorest based on the allocation due to it from the federation account, but the foresight of the immediate past governor of the State Senator Bukola Saraki, which was built upon by the current administration has helped improve the economy of the State in no small way as the State can boast of many companies that are improving the economy of the people despite rejecting the temptation to levy tax on the people.
It will be right to say Kwara is one of the most peaceful states in the country, and it is currently enjoying the good administration under the leadership of Abdulfatah Ahmed, who has proven himself as a seasoned banker, an administrator and now a super public servant who has been guiding the ship of the State incredibly since he was elected some three years back.

Confusion over different school uniforms
The students of the school on Tuesday caused confusion in the school as they appeared in different clothes that correlate with their religious beliefs.
While the Christian students who wore white garments sown into choir gowns sang Christian songs, the Muslim students who appeared in veil on the other hand sang Islamic songs.
The state government last year introduced same uniform for all the secondary school students in the state and also legalised the use of veil (hijab) in public schools.
The Christian Community, especially the Osun Baptist Conference protested against the decision then but the protest was ineffective as the government failed to reverse the policy.
It was gathered that security personnel stormed the school yesterday to prevent breakdown of law and order, even as officials of the state Ministry of Education were seen in the school taking measures to prevent further crisis.
24 students suspended
Meantime, authorities of the school have suspended 24 of the students indefinitely for alleged immoral, cult activities and disruption of academic programme in the school.
The suspension of the affected students followed the investigation conducted by the institution’s authority where it was discovered that the students actullay belong to cult group.
Though, teachers in the school declined to comment on the matter, it was gathered that the students comprising both sexes were said to have committeed several atrocities including locking up teachers within the school premises for hours.
NUT chairman backs suspension
The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, in the state who also doubles as the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Alhaji Saka Adesiyan while speaking on the matter said the suspension order served on the affected students would serve as deterrent to others.
He explained that the suspension order came after the state government set up a disciplinary committee to look into causes of crises in public schools, stressing the need for teachers, parents and guadians to join hands with government in instilling discipline in the students.
According to him, the crisis being witnessed in the school recently has religious and political undertone which should be nipped in the bud without delay in the interest of the country’s future.
Adesiyan called on tecahers especially NUT chairmen in all the local government councils of the state to be up and doing by reporting happenings in their schools to the appropriate authorities. - GBENGA OLARINOYE Va
